2012 Know your Army Day events schedule Shivaji Park Mumbai

The Know your Army day is held to celebrate the victory of India over Pakistan in the 1971 war & salute the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for this victory. For this, the Indian Army is organising the Vijay Diwas (victory day) celebrations at Shivaji Park in the heart of Mumbai, capital city of Maharashtra. The main aim of this festival is to encourage youngsters to join the Army.

It will be organised from December 12th to December 17th, with the main events taking place on the weekend of December 15th to 16th. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is expected to inaugurate the festival.

Main features of Know your Army day festival at Shivaji Park
  • Army band
  • Malkhamb and floor gymnastics
  • Demonstration match of cycle polo
  • Equestrian display
  • Acrobatics on motorcycles
  • Helicopter acrobatics
  • Action display by war commandos
  • Display of tanks and other Army equipment
  • General Stalls
Some years ago I had visited a similar festival at Shivaji Park and been enthralled by the jeeps, tanks and war guns on display. There was also a mobile hospital, communications vand and health center. We were allowed to clamber on to the top of the tanks and other vehicles. The most exciting events were the motorcycle acrobatics and the parachute jumps the commandos did from the sky bang on to the exact central circle in the park. Don't miss it this year!
